Lakeland, Fla.—John F. McGeough Sr., 90, former long-time resident of Woonsocket, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Lakeland Regional Hospital after a short illness.
He was the husband of the late Anne (Twomey) McGeough of Woonsocket who died in 1992. She worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles and was active in Democratic politics.
He was born in Pawtucket, RI son of the late Leo and Mary (Farrell) McGeough.
John was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. During World War II he served as a landing craft pilot in the Philippine Islands. As of his Coast Guard he also served lighthouse duty throughout New England.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s John owned and operated Ace Cab Co. in Woonsocket.
John enjoyed playing pool at the recreation center and swimming at the senior complex where he lived in Lakeland in his later years. Earlier, he had lived in Perham, Maine.
John is survived by four children: John F. McGeough Jr. of San Rafael, CA; Tom McGeough of North Attelboro, MA; Patrick McGeough of Mexico, ME; and Audrey Lambert of North Smithfield, RI. A sister; Barbara O’Rourke. He also leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone, MA.
